Who are the Knights of Columbus? The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic family fraternal service organization with 1.7 million members. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people. Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your community; it is supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing your own faith; it is about protecting and enhancing your family life.
What follows are a few facts about the Knights of Columbus.
The Knights of Columbus are a fraternal organization with over 1.7 million members throughout the world.
We are men of faith
We believe that a man is defined by his actions as a follower of God
We are a service oriented organization making a difference in the following areas:
o Faith o Community o Family o Youth o Fellowship
Three key examples of how we are involved are:
At least once a year we host what has become known as the ‘Tootsie Roll Drive’. 100% of the funds raised go towards helping and hosting events for the Mentally Impaired.
We believe all life is precious, including the life of an unborn infant. In 2005 there were 1,206,200 lives lost to abortions in the United States alone. In 2008 there were 1,212,230. The Knights of Columbus help support ‘Right to Life” groups and ‘Unplanned Pregnancy’ centers by providing funding for Ultra-sound Equipment to hopefully show the expectant mother that she has another life within her.
We support men and women who devote their lives to God and the Catholic faith. The knights offer assistance to postulates in the form of scholarships to assist with the cost of education. Men and women who are committing their lives to spiritual service often give up all of their possessions and need our help.
